1. International EES / ECHO -Symposium by SPIGGLE & THEIS
The ViDia Clinic in Karlsruhe, together with SPIGGLE & THEIS Medizintechnik GmbH held an International Symposium on Endoscopic Ear Surgery in Berlin from June 21-22, 2018 chaired by Professor Serena Preyer. High-caliber speakers from many parts of the world gave presentations on their experiences of endoscopic ear surgery at the two-day symposium. Feedback from the 60 participants from a total of 14 countries was extremely positive. Many benefits of endoscopic ear surgery were discussed and presented in detail. A special thank you was made to Prof Giuseppe Panetti for his contribution to this surgical technique over the last years. The joint conclusion was that whilst a great deal has already been learned about this surgical technique we are still on - but higher up on – the learning curve. However, Endoscopic Ear Surgery is here to stay. Furthermore most importantly it should not be seen as a competitive alternative to Microscopic Ear Surgery but as a complementary technique which can be used if and when the surgeon believes it makes best sense in the actual circumstances. The venue for the symposium was the special historic ruin lecture theater in the Berlin Charité University Hospital..
Quotation from Professor Dr. Preyer (Chair), “The speakers’ contributions demonstrated that endoscopic ear surgery has clear and demonstrable benefits. An increasing number of ear surgeons and surgical centers around the world are using this innovative, minimally invasive surgical technique with great success. The excellent feedback means we will be holding another symposium on Endoscopic Ear Surgery in future. The experience and expert knowledge gained from this symposium was very useful/beneficial for all participants.”
